Sound was working before I called CompaqHP on a memory issue. I have a cd drive (TDK Velocd) and dvd drive (Dynex) that dont automatically recognize formats anymore. Their conclusion after I called back and told them of my new experience: Use Quick Restore cds, (which I am cautious of doing if there are other solutions that I might not have tried yet. What I did so far: Checked all volume levels Checked all connections Checked for system sounds Checked correct device selected for audio playback (Audigy) Checked devices and Sound, Video and Game Controllers in Device Manager (states all is running well) Uninstalled and restarted reinstalled all drivers Unplugged interior exterior connections with soundcard and cd and dvd drives, reconnected, started up again. Sounds like (pardon the pun) you have covered everything - one can only conclude that its the sound card that has a problem - however you didnt say what memory problems you were having and what changes you made to your system - I say this because restore is not a full proof system and not all files are backed up. But try and rule out a faulty sound card by installing it in another computer if possible. And if you have an onboard sounds system as well make sure its turned off in the bios. Also try the restore point before installing the new sound card drivers. Hello AussiePete, Im not good at working around the BIOS settings, I didnt see anything that looked like I was about to turn off the onboard sound.
